AOL USERS:
What is the Spam folder and how do I use it?
AOL automatically stores mail that appears to be junk mail (or "spam") in a Spam folder. Your Mail Control settings determine how AOL decides which e-mails are spam.
You should check your Spam folder frequently to ensure that the Spam filtering system is properly classifying mail as spam. Occasionally, e-mail that is not spam will be sent to the Spam folder if it does not meet your criteria for acceptable e-mail (e.g., bank, membership newsletters, new friends).
To view your Spam folder
- In the Mail menu above the AOL toolbar, select Spam folder. Your Spam folder opens and displays a list of spam messages, if any.
The Spam folder uses special small graphics called "icons" to indicate each message's type (e.g., mail from bulk senders; mail from people you don't know), and also displays the date the mail was received, the sender's e-mail address, and the e-mail's subject line.
If you see a piece of e-mail that is not spam, select it and click the button labeled This is Not Spam.
AOL will automatically move the message to your New Mail folder. You should then add that e-mail address to your Address Book or your Custom Sender List, if you have set one up, so that future e-mails from this sender will remain in your New Mail folder.
Once you verify that e-mail in your Spam folder is actually junk mail, you can delete it. It is a good idea to delete your unwanted mail periodically to make room for more that will be delivered by AOL's Spam Filters. There are three options for deleting mail from your spam folder: You can delete an individual message, delete multiple messages, or delete all messages.
