Christening Invitations for Your Baby’s Christening Day Celebration

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Flourish on Blue Boy Christening InvitationBabies are adorable in their special christening or baptism outfits chosen with love for the ceremony.  A wonderful addition to the christening outfit might be a blanket, bib or a bible that the minister could bless and then can be added to a keepsake box for the child.

When planning your special christening or baptism day, first, before ordering christening invitations, decide on a budget and the size of your guest list.  Confirm the date with the important people in your child’s life, grandparents, favorite aunts and uncles, cousins, etc., before you set the date with the church.

Decide if you will have a reception following the baptism or christening ceremony.  If you want a reception at a banquet hall or restaurant, reserve it for your date and time as soon as you have confirmed the same with the church.  If you are having a reception at your home, decide if it will be indoors or out (make allowances for bad weather.)  If you will have the food catered at your home, reserve the date with the caterer and a time to look over their selections and to place your order.  Do you need to rent tables, linens, chairs?  If you would like the services of a photographer, musicians, and entertainers, book them as soon as possible.

Once your christening date, time and reception location have been confirmed, it is time to order the christening invitations.  There are christening and baptism invitations available for all budgets and styles.  You can include a separate RSVP card or include a response line on your invitation.  Mail your invitations up to eight weeks prior to your event.  “Save the Date” cards are a great way to give out-of-town guests prior notice of your christening or baptism celebration or a simple phone call will be appreciated.

Flourish on Pink Girl Christening InvitationUnlike the child’s birthday party or other social events, the invitations to a baptism or christening will go to guests of all ages.  The overall theme should reflect not only the child, but the invited adults.  During an adult cocktail hour, you might want to have activities for the children, but remember, they will probably be dressed in their best “church clothes”.  If the baptism or christening party is for an infant, you might want to enlist the services of someone to watch the baby while you mingle with your guests.  With all the family attending the affair, it shouldn’t be a problem to find a willing sitter.

At least a day before the party, make sure you have charged your video camera battery and have checked your still camera batteries or digital camera memory available.  Make sure you have plenty of video tape and film set out in plain site so you know where it is when you need it!  Some disposable cameras sitting around for your guests to also capture the action can yield some of the best pictures of you, the parents, with your child.

And most important, enjoy this special day with your child.

Tips for Taking a Perfect Baby Picture for Your Christmas Photo Cards

Vintage Holiday Tree Christmas Photo CardsEveryone wants a perfect picture of their baby for their holiday photo cards or for just a keepsake. The hardest part of doing this is often getting the baby to pose. Follow these steps to get the results you want at the studio.

Bring your baby’s favorite toys or stuffed animals to the portrait studio. It’s a new environment for your baby, so having familiar objects will make them more comfortable.

Baby Love Blue Christmas Photo CardsDress the baby for comfort. Often in the quest for that perfect picture, parents try too hard to dress the baby in something that is more attractive than it is comfortable. If your baby is uncomfortable, they will be agitated more quickly and be less likely to cooperate.

Arrive to the studio early so that the baby has time to get used to the new surroundings.

How To Take a Beautiful Professional Style Baby Picture for your Holiday Photo Cards

Professional Style Black and White Baby PhotosWith a few helpful tips, you can take a professional style photo of you and your baby for your holiday photo cards.

Things you will need:

  • A Baby (duhhhh)
  • A Digital Camera
  • A Black T-Shirt
  • Mom or Dad (to hold the baby)
  • A Photo Editing Program

Have mom or dad (or both) put on a solid black t-shirt and hold their baby in their arm(s) close to their body. Take more pictures than you think you’ll need so you have lots to look through to find your favorite.

Make sure you have good lighting because you don’t want to use a flash unless you have a special kind of flash or a diffuser on your flash. Natural light is good, or even a lamp to retain tones on your photos. The photographer should  take pictures with the light behind them, and try and position everything so that there are no major shadows.

Load the pictures on to your computer. With your photo editing software, crop the pictures so that nothing but arms and the upper half of the baby’s body are showing. On your photo editing program change the picture (if haven’t used the option on your camera already) to sepia. Then use the brightness/contrast setting to adjust the contrast. The goal here is to get the black t-shirt to be a solid black background.

Once you’ve selected your favorite photo, it’s time to order Christmas photo cards to show off your newborn to friends and family.

Are you hosting a baby shower for a mommy-to-be? We’ve got some fabulous baby shower invitations for girls, boys or unisex. If you are looking for some ideas on how to keep your guests entertained, try a few of these baby shower games!

The Tray Memory Game:

  • Before the game starts you put 15 to 20 small items associated with babies, on a tray. These can be a bottle, pacifier, baby sock, safety pin, etc.
  • Give each of your guests a piece of paper and a pencil to write down their answers.
  • To start the game bring the tray into the room and place it where all the guests can see it but tell them not to touch, leave the tray in that position for one minute and tell the guests to memorize the items that are on the tray, then remove the tray from the room and give the guests five minutes to write down on pieces of paper what all the items were.
  • The guest who gets the most items correct is the winner.
