With the start of football also comes the fun of tailgating with friends or gathering around the big screen to watch your favorite teams. So the question is always “What will I serve?” These Italian Sloppy Joes are a great twist on the traditional and will become a favorite.<\/p>\n

Ingredients:<\/p>\n

1 tbs Olive Oil
\n1\/2 lb. lean ground beef
\n1\/2 lb. ground port
\n2-3 cloves minced garlic
\n1\/2 cup chopped onion
\n3-4 chopped basil leaves
\n1\/4 cup red wine
\n1 can Italian diced tomatoes
\n1\/4 cup milk
\nPinch of red pepper flakes
\nSalt to taste
\n3 tbs tomato paste
\nMozzarella slices
\nBuns of choice but sturdy enough to last through the sandwich<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/em>Add 1 tbs. olive oil to a large non-stick skillet over med-high heat. Add the following ingredients: lean ground beef, ground pork, garlic, and chopped onion. Cook until the meat is brown, stirring to combine the two meats.<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>Add the following ingredients to the skillet: chopped basil leaves, red wine, Italian diced tomatoes, milk, red pepper flakes, and salt to taste. Stir to combine and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to med-low and simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes to allow the sauce to reduce.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/em>Add \u00a0tomato paste to the pan and stir into the sauce. This is the secret ingredient to this dish, so please don’t leave it out!<\/p>\n

To serve, place slices of mozzarella cheese inside your bun of choice. Add the sloppy joe mixture to the bun and serve. With\u00a0LOTS<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0of napkins!<\/p>\n
