Learn about Spoofs & Phishing

Verifying an Announcingit.com Spoof is easy:

Our My Account login system is the definitive, legitimate source for any email from Announcingit that affects your account.

The bottom line -- if an email is sent by us, it is also displayed on our My Account login system.  If you received an email that looks like it's from Announcingit about a problem with your account or requests personal information and it's not in My Account when you login, it's a fake email.  Login to the My Account system to verify your Announcingit emails today!

When in doubt, call us at 800-400-2269 BEFORE emailing a reply or sending sensitive information through the internet.  We NEVER ask for your social security number, birth date, mother's maiden name or other sensitive personal information to shop our site.

What is a Spoof or Phishing?

Every internet user should know about spoof (a.k.a. phishing or hoax) e-mails that appear to be from a well-known company but can put you at risk.

Although they can be difficult to spot, they generally ask you to click a link back to a spoof web site and provide, update or confirm sensitive personal information. To bait you, they may allude to an urgent or threatening condition concerning your account.

What Spoof Emails are after:

  • ATM/Debit or Credit Card number

  • Social Security Number (SSN)

  • Credit card validation (CCV) code

  • Password or Pin

  • Bank account number

Spoof web sites
A spoof website is one that mimics a popular company's website to lure you into disclosing confidential information. To make spoof sites seem legitimate, thieves use the names, logos, graphics and even code of the real company's site.

They can even fake the URL that appears in the address field at the top of your browser window and the padlock that appears in the lower right corner. The links in the spoof e-mails almost always take you to a spoof web site.
