Choose wording that lets guests know what you have planned. Your wording should be specific as to type of party it will be—dressed up or dressed down. What type of food will be served—appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, a buffet, a full meal, or drinks and dessert? Let them know if your New Year's party will have entertainment. Will you have music and dancing or live entertainment? Your invitation should also tell guests what attire they should wear—holiday festive, casual holiday, or black tie.

State the party's location as well as the starting and ending time. Be sure to mention if children are welcome or if it is an adult only affair so you're guests will know they will need to hire a sitter.
